“Like Nothing Else”

February 16, 2005

I saw a Hummer H2 commercial tonight that cracked me up…

Inside the car (you really can’t tell what kind) a mother is clearly driving her teenaged son to a new school.  He is a bit sullen and she is trying to be helpful and motherly.

“Are you sure you’re going to be all right?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you want me to drop you off a block away and you can walk the rest of the way?”
“Nah, that’s ok.”

She pulls up and he gets out.  She watches him approach the doorway of the school, which is surrounded by hostile, tough-looking kids.  He shoulders through them, exchanging monosyllabic greetings.  The camera pans around so we see a strangely confident look on his face as he passes through.

The camera zooms out to the curb, where we see that mom’s car is a Hummer H2.  We hear one of the tough-looking kids say, “Woah, sweet ride!”  (General murmur of agreement from the other tough-looking kids.)

Cue orbital picture of Earth, with Hummer H2 logo, narrator says: “Hummer. Like nothing else.”

Hmm.. Wonder what the tough kids would have said if mom had dropped her son off in one of these?.

The automobile industry has finally lost its collective mind.  The CXT is just silly.
