Mahalia 1995 – 2010
She lived the best possible life a cat could live, basking in and returning the affection of people who loved her. In January when she became very ill, I didn’t want her to go in Winter, so we gave her insulin injections, thyroid medicine; she gained weight and rallied. She enjoyed the Summer and Fall outdoors, looking and sniffing and soaking up the warm weather. A couple weeks ago she even chased a squirrel.
Last week she took a turn for the worse, and this morning it was evident she was headed downhill fast. We took her into the vet, who gave her an injection of liquid happiness that would sell for who-knows-how-much out on the street. She relaxed, dozed in my arms; her breathing became regular and it was obvious she was feeling no pain at all. Then the vet came back in and gave her the other injection, which acted instantly. To all appearances her passing was painless and peaceful.
We called her Holly. She is survived by her brother Oscar. We will all miss her.
Bless her heart she can now wait at the Rainbow Bridge http://www.rainbowbridge.com/Poem.htm. Sorry for your loss. I know she meant a lot to you both.
Oh, sweet kitty… she will live in your hearts always. So sorry for your loss, George. Hugs to you & Mrs. DOF.
What a lovely post to remember a special friend! I understand how hard these days are – been there twice. Love and hugs.
I am so sorry for your loss. The love we feel for our pets and the love that is returned are great gifts. You enjoyed some wonderful times with Holly and your bravery in aiding her to pass quietly in her last moments, is commendable.
Oscar will miss her, too and will need a little extra attention, but I think you already are giving him that extra comfort.
I’ve done the euthanasia thing enough to know it’s tough, but there are far worse ways to go. It sounds like Holly got to live life to the fullest thanks to you and Mrs. DOF.
My condolences on the loss of your friend.
I am so sorry. This is hard, I know.
We’re so sorry about your kitty. The little furry four-footed kids are just as loved as the two-legged ones, and their passing is difficult.
Sorry to hear about your loss, George. Pets are family.
I have had a cat avalanche in since I got back off the road Friday. I will give them all an extra hug in memory of Mahalia.
I’m saddened by your loss.

It sucks. Sorry about the loss of your pet.
Over the decades that’s happened to us a fair number of times, and we miss them all. Would that we could do for ourselves what we can do for our feline and canine companions when they are completing their time with us.
