Monday Morning Music: Rap on Alexander Hamilton

November 23, 2009

I would love to see more stuff like this in history classes.  Really.  You think any kid is going to see this and ever forget that Alexander Hamilton was an unstoppable man who fought his way up from total poverty to become George Washington’s chief of staff, secretary of the treasury, and be shot by Aaron Burr?  You think there’s a chance they might want to know some of Hamilton’s thoughts or check out The Federalist Papers? Could we get this kind of treatment on other historical figures? Teachers, start your Interwebs…

That was friggin awesome! I loved integration there of musical styling with history. I have to agree too it would make it really to not only learn but remember. I will be buying that album.

Okay, I hate rap.  I loved that.  Apparently, rap mixed with beat poetry on the subject of history is okay with the rap-hating centers of my brain.  Gorgeous!

A confession: I still haven’t finished the biography of Alexander Hamilton because I don’t want to know the details of how he died.  I like him too much.  How sad is that?

Rap can do good in the world just like any other form of music. It’s how you use it that counts. I can’t stand country but if I hear a country song I like I would listen.
