What ARE they talking about over there?

BBC Article about survey on women’s conversation

I’m always a little suspicious of surveys like “What women talk about“ - individuals vary widely.  For instance, guys supposedly talk about sports a lot.  Some do.

This survey consisted of the BBC interviewing “a handful of females” in response to the recent US study that found men and women talk about equally much.  Here’s a sample:

  • Absolutely beautiful:  The words women often use to describe friends who are not
  • Conventionally attractive: Preceded by “well I suppose she is…“, a phrase women often use to describe those who actually are

observations
  1. Give me a man’s comment every time.  He is always more truthful (even when it is not complimentary)!

Woman disguise what they really mean or think with extra cover your butt words!

  2. I agree women disguise their meaning with extra words but then, women are more picky abt things like appearance and stuff…

Secondly, men or women, regardless would talk abt the stuff they spend most time around…If men had to spend 1 hour every morning fixing their hair and makeup just the right way…and then, walk around in some ridiculous shoes, i bet, their conversations would be focusing not on sports… I know a couple of women who talk about computers or cars almost as much as a man supposedly would….

    Generalizations usually dont fit…

  3. As a younster (40 years ago) I fixed “things” bicycles, radios, record players etc. to earn extra money. If the person I was fixing it for was ‘interesting’ these electrical apliances went back with an FM transmitter attached.
    I know that was BAD.
In any case me and my buddies spent hours listening to girls and some teachers.
Girls/Young woman at that that age talked about Boys/Men without a break.
Woman teachers talked about men to other woman teachers and about kids to male teachers.

As these transmitters were very cheap chinese imports they did not last long, so the depth of the poll cannot be verified.
That is most probably why I was never busted.
My Dad would have tanned my hide severly.

OK, I know it’s bad, but… BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!! Sorry, couldn’t help myself… damn funny (unless it happened to me or one of my kids did it)

Hey, it was serious sociological research.  You just didn’t have a government grant.
