Walking home irritated

When I got done with work today (not true: it was just a stopping point) there was a blizzard going on.  I thought: the campus is in good riding condition, but what about Normal Avenue?  What if it’s a foot deep in snow?  So I started off on foot.  But when I reached that last half-mile, I found it clean and ploughed; I could have ridden home with no problem.  I froze my ass off for no reason.

But when I walked in the door I found a package full of these:

It gives me a happy, warm fuzzy feeling to think of all the high-quality _______ _____s I’ll make with them.  Anyone?

  6. I came here from the RSS feed to either say “no idea” or look at the solution. Yay, somebody found it raspberry

    I used to make my own (braided) cables for my 10MB/s networks, because I had so many machines and wanted to be able to get just the lengths of cable I need.

    These days I don’t use cables anymore at home, but a WLAN raspberry

    If I can buy cables at meritline or some other HK based place for $Cheap, I’ll grab some of those.  Then I’ll cut it to fit a length for some specific purpose and utilize my crimpers for one end.  Much tidier than spooling up cable and letting it hang over things.

  9. I make my own cause I can get a package of RJ45 jacks from China for $10 and 1000ft of CAT5 cable for $80. All I need to make is about 10 cables of roughly 10 to 20 ft in length each to realize the savings, especially for greater and greater lengths. And I don’t really need CAT6 cause I don’t care about gig yet. When I build my own house I will likely consider something more professional though.

    Bad cables, or recycled cables make for great cable ties as well as other useful items…

  10. Yep, same reasons for me.  I want a cable a certain length, not 10 feet longer with the excess coiled up.  Plus I’m cheap.  Or I want a cable with a male RJ45 at one end and a wall block at the other.  Or I want a cable WHEN I want it, and not after a trip to the store.
