Be careful with that axe

Nilbo is a Canadian author of observational humor in the Dave Barry tradition, and he was less than careful with his axe.  But he got off pretty lucky, I think; he will keep that thumb and has a good story to tell, and a legitimate excuse to get out of chores while asking for another beer. 

I have enough experience with hand injuries to sympathize with him.  Our hands are just packed with nerves.  You can’t really concentrate on much else when you accidentally bump the injury into something later.  It’s hard to tell which is worse, the pain or the embarassment
