Nothing to report except impatience
June 13, 2007
I ordered a “Brutal Beast” MTB wheelset with Rhyno Lite rims from Harris Cyclery today. Since I’m a little heavier than some riders the slight additional weight won’t matter (at least I have no right to complain) but by reputation these are ideal for crazy urban riders like me who are also a little too fond of food.
Damn, now I can’t wait for them to arrive. So I have nothing really to report and can’t decide what the point of this post is. Sorry.
I notice Harris also does custom wheel builds. Hmm… I have an old Triumph bike frame in the garage and now I’m thinking of the ultimate English 3-speed, using MTB rims and all alloy components…

Nostalgia attack: a Raleigh Hustler was my first ‘serious’ bike: drop handlebars, 3 speed sturmey archer hub and a wonderfully soft, broken in Brooks leather saddle. Cycled all over the hilly north of England on it. The hub gears never went wrong. You get in that bike shop and tell him to do that hub justice. Titanium. Carbon fibre. Ceramic rims. Tri bars. A truly mental 3 speeder would be a joy to behold. Back to work…
I’m still drooling over the thought that in the next month or so I will have a GT mountain bike. I will post here with the gory details later
The wheels arrived today and they are awesome – double-walled box-beam rims with steel grommets crimped into the spoke holes, extra-strong spokes, and Deore comp hubs. Probably too busy before Saturday to install them, which is even more frustrating… but these wheels are way up the course.
Well it’s no GT but I have a Specialized Hard Tail… I guess it will have to do. :cheese:
Hello-just bought and partially re-furbed a raliegh hustler if you want to ride back down memeory lane or recover the s-a 3 speed hub… drop me a line as I’m now fitting out a nice aluminium dolan frame and need the funds for a nice brake set…
cheers
Grant – that sounds like an awesome bike! I have too many bikes right now (my main ride is a high-end Specialized mtb) but will post your note on my Google shared items. The more people who know about it, the better.
