25 April, 2006: Lightning kills 5 children praying at cross

15 May, 2006: Plane carrying sen. Kennedy struck by lightning

I don’t actually wish Sen. Ed Kennedy any harm, but I must admit to laughing when I heard the second headline.  As a liberal, I think Kennedy has hurt liberalism.

As for the poor kids in Mexico who were killed by lightning, well God seems to be a stickler about natural law.  Tall aluminum structures aren’t the best place to hang around during storms.  On the other hand, Senator, if you want a place to make your devotions…

Ted Kennedy and the rest of his clan are not liberals in the classic sense. They are socialists and calling them liberal givess us real liberals a bad rep. Liberals believe in freedom including economic freedom. I am a liberal although I usually hesitate to describe my believe as liberal because in the USA today liberalism has become a synonym for socialism.

Imagine how ‘conservatives’ feel!  With that bunch of ass-clowns carrying their label.  I guess both conservatives and liberals have an interest in restoring their good names.

Yep. The religious right wing has usurped the conservative label and the only thing they are conservative about is what they do in the privacy of their bedrooms and tell me that they want to control what I do in mine.

The irony is that as much as I despise the religious right wing I will hold hands with them until the socialist left wing is defeated. Kind of like the world balance of power thing-your enemy is my enemy until he is defeated and THEN I’ll kick your butt.

It probably wouldn’t hurt us to turn the temperature down a bit.  George Bush may be a poor excuse for a conservative, but he isn’t Hitler – and Teddy Kennedy, as much as I dislike him, isn’t Stalin either.

For my dough the Republicans are on track to bankrupt this country and they seem glued to ignorance as an excuse for policy.  I can deal with fuzzy-headed social programs but not with extreme deficit spending and substituting religious superstition for science.

So there we are – you voting Republican because you hate the Democrats, and me voting Democrat because I hate the Republicans (even though I would describe myself as a Republican if Ike showed up and ran for office).  I can’t stomach the Libertarians and you certainly can’t take the Greens.

Doesn’t matter what you and I do but there are a lot of people just like us and it adds up.  It’s a fine mess we’re in.
