You Passed 8th Grade Math

Congratulations, you got 9/10 correct!

It’s really depressing if I can’t get ten 8th-grade math questions correct in a row.  Worse that the error I made was one of nomenclature. (From Pharyngula)

Have you tried the Washington State 10th grade WASL test?  This one is really depressing.

Oops, forgot to give you the url.  http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/wasl10.asp

It said my grade was 88%, or 7/8 (which is actually in-between 88 and 89 percent, but that’s a distinction without a difference).  As usual, my problem was not lack of understanding, but concentration.  It would be interesting to take it again, different questions, after a dose of Ephedra.  Or even a double-cappucino.

The problem is, and I suspect this is true for a lot of people, concentrating wears me out so I jump at the answer.

My grade came up as 6/8 which is 75%, although I DID earn a B for my Intermediate Algebra class.
Maybe I shouldn’t have sold my graphing calculator to the pawn shop quite so soon.

Got nine out of ten, but I wonder which one I got wrong ?. Maybe the 2,2,3,4,5 one, I was clueless.

well I got 10/10 on the 8th grade and 6/8 on the 10th grade.  I think I’m gonna play the tired, unable to concentrate trump card. :)

Seems all the best people get 9 out of 10! Real pity we are not told what was wrong.

DOF, with all due respect sir, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but 7/8 is the decimal .875 and when changed to a percent by moving the decimal point two places too the right is 87.5 percent; less than and not in between 88 and 89 percent. A close fraction to 89 percent is 57/64, which is about .8906 and 88% or 88/100 can be reduced to 22/25.

Thanks, Basil – you’re absolutely right!  What I should have said is: “…between 87 and 88 percent, but that doesn’t really make a difference.”  ;-P

I got 100% on both tests.  I guess all that tuition money wasn’t wasted!

I got 9 of 10. But I was told what I got wrong, was this different before…?

It was the same before.  But it is easy to miss the part where it says what was right, what wrong.
