Book meme
MrsDOF got tagged with a book meme, and since her library and mine overlap somewhat, I thought I’d give it a try:
1) Total number of books I own: To quote the Mrs., “Who can say?” Two or three thousand, I suppose.
2) Last book I bought: Hackers and Painters, by Paul Graham
3) Last book I read: Currently reading Realm of Algebra, by Isaac Asimov
4) Five books that mean a lot to me: OK, that question is tough but fair… No, wait! It isn’t fair! How the hell am I supposed to decide?!!!
- Demon-Haunted World, by Carl Sagan
- The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, by Robert Heinlein (or Time Enough For Love, or Have Spacesuit, Will Travel, or Citizen Of The Galaxy, or…
- Either of Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman, or What Do You Care What Other People Think?, by Richard Feynman
- How The World Was One, by Arthur C. Clarke
- Envisioning Information, by Edward Tufte
Oh, come on! This is ridiculous. Am I supposed to leave behind View From A Height, by Isaac Asimov? Innumeracy, by John Allen Paulos? The Language Police, by Diane Ravitch? Or (at least two hundred book titles omitted here)?
I’m not sending this meme on to anyone else; it’s stupid. I might as well expect to look at a scan of my brain and say; “That’s my favorite part.”
You might like “The Education of T.C. Mits,” by Lillian R. Lieber and Hugh Gray Lieber. It’s an odd little book about math, broadly considered.
Hey, Tom, he went ahead and ordered the book, after your fine recommendation and checking a couple places.
The idea this summer is to be sorting Out books, yet we keep finding new ones to bring in.
I suppose there are worse vices….
I know what you mean; Lately I’ve taken to droplifting used books around town, just to get them out of the house.
