Gee dad, can I foreclose on the next one?

Wristwatch ad

You could afford one of these too, if... Well no. You couldn't.

This just in: 68% of the sons of the 1% work at their dad’s company.  Which put me in mind of this ad I saw recently for a fancy wristwatch.

I’m sure they’re really nice wristwatches – for forty grand or so, they ought to be.

No big point here, other than that I just had to do a caption-contest response to this ad when I saw it.  If you have a good caption, share it as a comment!

“Patek Philippe … the new name for planet Earth.”

I think their making a marketing mistake. My grandfather’s pocket watch was something to hand down to the next generation, but everyone had switched to wristwatches by then. Now we’re talking about handing down a wristwatch (do they really expect a leather band to survive that long?), and people are doing away with watches in favor of the time on their cell phone. I think the next generation will look at this as an oddity, at best.

That’s a really good point; they have a product that is falling into disuse. At least by those of us who would ever have to ask what it costs. Wristwatches came along in the 1920′s and will be pretty much gone by 2020.

I really don’t know what makes the super-rich tick. (Sorry, couldn’t resist)

That’s a particularly vile ad since it’s a ripoff of the native american saying about the earth.

Doh! Both you and David caught that and I totally missed it. So busy cracking jokes it went right by me.
