Movie critic FAIL

January 3, 2010

It must be a slow day in Chicago or something.  The Chicago Tribune’s Christopher Borrelli asks: “Could Blade II = Blade Runner?  Why did this great overlooked 2002 comic-book picture become an example of the irrelevancey of Wesley Snipes…  When Harrison Ford’s 1982 movie went from polarizing flop to cult favorite to prescient masterpiece in less than a decade?”

Dude, can we talk?

Seriously, if you have to ask that question, should you even be writing about movies in a newspaper?  One is from a story by Philip K Dick and stars Harrison Ford, and the other isn’t and doesn’t.  Were you just attracted to the fact that they both have the word; “blade” in the title?  Now go to your desk in your cubicle at the company in your failing industry and think about what you did.

I do believe this poor gentleman is a prime candidate for psychiatric intervention.  There are some serious issues in his psyche that need to be addressed, stat.

If he starts waxing philosophical over Dude, Where’s My Car?, I do hope some kind people in his office will make sure he gets the help he needs.  The need for stabilizing medication will be overwhelming and obvious at that point.

    What??????????????????

“Blade Runner” is on my short list of best movies ever made. “Blade” is on my long list of try to find a nice test pattern instead.

I have never seen Blade, so thanks for the heads up … to not bother.

Over the holidays, Blade Runner was on one of my movie channels (satellite—cable can kiss my arse) and in HD.  I was engrossed … AGAIN, and even more.  And that wasn’t even 1080P.  I was just so struck (yet again) with this movie.  The scene where Leon nearly kills Deckard is painfully gripping.  And when Rachel plays the piano (apparently the sheet music didn’t match!) … oh my.  Wesley?  Meh.

I haven’t seen Blade, either, so perhaps I’m not competent to make a comparison. It’s hard to believe that it could be as profound an exploration of what it is to be human as Blade Runner was, particularly since the review from every critic with even half a mind thought Blade was somewhere between pathetic and awful.

All the movies listed really blow; is this some sort of a nod to the general suckiness of 00 and Gen Y/Z?

I look at the failure of Brisco County and Freaks & Geeks as examples of why America is doomed.

    …DOOMED I say!!!

Blade Runner = Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep AFAIK. Is that right?

Yes, Eunoia, Blade Runner was based on Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep.

Yep!  I’ve always thought the title; Blade Runner sounded cooler though.
