Mechanical geek quiz
September 24, 2008
I am cleaning out the garage to get ready to make some home repairs. Before I throw out this old oil pump, tell me…
Which way will the bottom gear have to turn, to move oil from the left chamber to the right chamber? Clockwise? Or counterclockwise?
The winner gets to right-click on the picture and download his very own .jpg of an old oil pump. It’s an extravagant prize, to be sure.

Counter?
counterclockwise
Yep, counterclockwise. Webs, you added a question mark, so your answer doesn’t count.
What, you haven’t heard of a guess before?
I really made the guess by looking at the opening on the right side and seeing how it was slanted down. This made me think it was made that way so the teeth could more easily push the oil into that opening.
Widdershins.
Well ask yourself Webs, how does the oil get from one side to the other? Puzzle it out.
