Let’s keep an eye on this come election day

August 23, 2008

Big surprise, Diebold admits their election machines might drop votes.  But the flaw “probably didn’t ruin any elections”.  (Does anyone else remember the former CEO of Diebold, also chairman of the Indiana Republican Party, vowing to “do whatever it takes to make sure George W. Bush wins Indiana”?  Or that Diebold, now “Premier Election Solutions”, is a major Republican donor?)

Election: it isn’t rocket surgery.  You mark your vote on a piece of paper.  Keep them safe, with people from both sides watching.  Then they’re counted, with people from both sides watching.  Tally the results.  Winner drinks champagne from a glass, loser from bottle.

we’ve got those Diebold machines here in the very Democratic-machine state of Maryland. I’m voting absentee this time around.

It’s always funny to watch them do an election over in places like Iraq. Purple ink so you can’t vote twice, paper ballots that take 3 days to count, and no ahaha flash memory or hanging chads.

Seriously, the only thing there is that prevents me from being able to vote early and often around here is whatever skill it takes to read your confirming information off the voter rolls upside down. I wonder if they’s let me rattle off my address at the DMV next time I need a new driver’s license? Buy beer with a voter registration card?

Do you think the press in this country could ever let us get away with taking three days to tally an election?

Color me absolutely not shocked at all.

Did you ever see the HBO special on this?  Chilling.

I’m glad Washington state automatically sends out absentee ballots.  No worries about Diebold here.  Now if only the rest of the country were as smart…
