Want a third party? Here’s a good place to start

If we want a viable third party, it probably doesn’t make sense in our winner-take-all system to vote for them in national elections. We’ll have to start at the state level. I’m voting Rich Whitney for governor:

For national-level candidates, I’m voting Giannoulias and Halvorson. Yes, I am disappointed in the Democrats. I’d love to have Green party Senators, even a president. But the Republicans have demonstrated they shouldn’t be anywhere near the reins of power until they start acting like responsible leaders again.

Which I hope is soon, because we need at least two credible, responsible parties. When you only have one such party, even that party begins to degrade. Think back to “Stevenson vs. Eisenhower” – wouldn’t that be a nice conundrum to have?

  1. David Engel says:

I hold the same sentiment for Democrats. That’s (partly) why I voted third party.

  2. I would vote Green in a heartbeat if I thought it were not more important to do whatever I can to deny today’s Republicans power.
