Recipe for flooding
February 23, 2007
- Hard freeze for about two weeks, followed by
- A couple good-sized snow storms, followed by
- A couple days of slight melting (but the ground will still be frozen hard and there’s still eight inches of soggy snow on the ground), followed by
- Predicted torrential rains tomorrow.
Add high winds and stir. Yields flood warnings for most of Central Illinois for Saturday and Sunday.

Yikes! Stay out of the root cellar, Dorothy! I think anyone would prefer snow in that scenario. Here’s hoping it’s not as bad as it could be.
Is there anything big enough close to Normal which could flood us ????
Things just seem like they are getting wetter and wetter with no end in sight. I doubt the underpass at Vernon and Beaufort will be able to survive much longer.
yep, the recipe is about right. I’ve got 18-20 inches of packed snow on the frozen ground here at the Aerie and the forecast is for 1-2 inches of rain tonight. Glad I’m way up top of the hill. The Tioga River is gonna be sky high tomorrow.
